The Manistique River is over 60 miles long and runs from Manistique Lake at Curtis to the town of Manistique. The Village has almost eight miles of frontage on the River and Lake Michigan. The Manistique area offers four seasons of activities, and a wide variety of opportunities for vacation fun. You can enjoy nature, boat, fish, camp, snowmobile, hunt, shop, dine or just relax in this beautiful area. The Manistique Harbor is a deep draft commercial and recreational harbor. The Harbor is a Harbor of Refuge and supports law enforcement and search and rescue vessels. The property being offered for sale is located on the east side of the Manistique River, next to the Municipal Marina and boating access site. Charter fishing trips can be arranged here, and you can begin strolls on the City's walking path/trail system that runs along the shore of Lake Michigan. This (wheelchair accessible) boardwalk follows the shoreline from the Manistique Harbor, and runs east for about two miles. There are benches, interpretive signs, a fishing pier, picnic areas, observation areas and a swimming beach. From here your can get a good view of the East Brake Water Light and the red Manistique East Breakwater Light and the Carl D. Bradley Memorial Park. This area is visited by residents, sightseers, and tourists. Further up river is the Schoolcraft County Historical Park, at the Siphon Bridge. It features a Museum and the historic 200 foot tall octagonal brick Water Tower, listed on the National and State registers. From Manistique you’ll find many activities in Schoolcraft County. Surrounded by state and National forest land, it offers marvelous opportunities for outdoor recreation. At the Rainey Wildlife Area a hiking trail passes through wooded habitat in and around Smith Creek, Smiths Slough, and Indian Lake, and takes hikers over boardwalks to an elevated observation platform that provides opportunities for viewing wildlife. Summer Bird watching is popular, as well as fall photography and winter snowshoeing. At the Seney National Wildlife Refuge are loons, geese, eagles, herons, cranes, and woodland wildlife. Indian Lake State Park, the fourth largest inland lake in the Upper Peninsula, is nearby. Near Indian Lake is The Bishop Baraga Shrine, where the "Snowshoe Priest" built a Mission that includes a chapel, cemetery, and Indian dwellings. The Hiawatha National Forest and Lake Superior State Forest, The Big Spring, "Kitch-iti-kipi", the largest spring in Michigan at Palms Book State Park, the Garlyn Zoological Park, The Thompson State Fish Hatchery, three golf courses, and over 2,000 miles of groomed trails for snowmobiling are also near by.
